About Our HouseHelp us give sick children About Ronald McDonald House of Ottawa and Eastern Ontario National Capital Children's Oncology Care Inc. (Manoir Ronald McDonald House) was founded in 1983 and granted a charitable license in 1983. The House opened its doors to sick children and their families in June of 1984. Ronald McDonald House is owned and operated by National Capital Children's Oncology Care Inc., a charitable organization. Its Board of Directors consists of 15 volunteer members from business, medical and the surrounding community. The Ottawa House is located next to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, an internationally recognized hospital. The Ottawa House serves communities within a wide radius. Some of these areas include: Cornwall, Pembroke, Renfrew, Deep River, as well as northern Ontario, out of province and even out of the country. (More than a third of our families come from the Ottawa Valley.) Our 14-room House is "home" to over 500 families each year. Our families enjoy a private, uniquely designed bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and has access to a large fully equipped kitchen and no-charge laundry facilities. Lounges and playrooms provide an environment where families are able to meet and share their concerns and feelings and gain support from families in similar situations. While McDonald's and their charity, Ronald McDonald House Charities, is a long-term committed partner to us, we have a significant need to fundraise in the community. RMHC guarantees every House in Canada a minimum annual contribution of $100,000 to assist in operating costs and funds a portion of major renovations and capital improvements. For Ottawa, this amount alone is approximately 30 per cent of our operating costs. In addition to this commitment, the House also receives from time to time, in kind and cash support through events, suppliers, coin boxes and McHappy Day. For the remaining amount of our operating budget that must be raised, we rely on the generosity of individual and corporate donations and funds generated by fundraising events. It costs Ronald McDonald House about $75 per night to accommodate one family. Families, however, are only asked to contribute $10 per night toward this expense. We depend on the support of a dedicated team of volunteers to perform the many services that the House offers to families. Your financial support allows us to commit to funding programs for the coming years and will help us to continue to offer the high standard of service for which our House has become known and continue to welcome families through our front doors.
